Dinner last night.

We all sat together as a family last night, something we don't do that regularly as it always ends up being chaotic. But things are changing and we now eat as a family at least 3 times a week.

Anyway, as I pressed the button on my pepper shaker, watched the light come on and the grinding begin, I spared yet another thought for the victims of the Victorian fires. Something so trivial as putting pepper on my meal, bought a tear to my eye.

It is a normal occurrence for me but for the survivors of this whole ordeal, when will they begin to feel normal again? When will they be able to sit at a table and in their own home and reflect on their life again? To sit there and talk about the school day, to discuss what happened at work, to talk about the weather, plan something for Valentines day or plan the Easter holidays?

Will there ever be a normal for them?

I sincerely hope so but after grieving for my son for 9 years, I don't think they will ever go back to feeling normal, not ever.

Much love to those that have lost family and friends in this tragedy, may you find the strength to slowly rebuild your lives.

May Sam the Koala make a full recovery and that all the other wildlife flourish as their forests grow back.

And a heartfelt thank you to the "firies" that have fought a long and hard battle against the fires. You will forever be heroes in the eyes of all Australians.
